    Veteran Somali Songwriter of Indian Descent Dies in Hargeisa

    HARGEISA (SomaliUpdate Online) — Rashid Bullo, a renowned songwriter veteran has died in Hargeisa on Thursday night after short illness, his family said.

HARGEISA (SomaliUpdate Online) — Rashid Bullo, a renowned songwriter veteran has died in Hargeisa on Thursday night after short illness, his family said.
He died in Hargeisa aged 81-years old.
Having his family migrated from India during the colonial era in the Somali coastal town of Seylac in 1886, Rashid Bullo was born in Seylac and started his career as musician at Radio Hargeisa, the then British colonial-owned media in Hargeisa when the northern Somalia regions were British Somaliland.
He later transformed into song-composer and in Somali language and became one of the best artists in the northern Somalia territory.
Bullo integrated within Somali community and married his Somali wife.
According to his son Rafiq Rashid Bullo, Mr Bullo became respected legendary due to his music career as he wrote a dozen of now popular songs about love, nationalism and social justice.
"He always saw himself as Somali man. He was part of everything about the people” Rafiq said.
He was working at Radio Hargeisa as its archive manager.
