Auditor General Nur Farah fired over the death of minister Abbas Siraji.
MOGADISHU (SomaliUpdate Online) — Somalia Cabinet of Ministers fired the country's Auditor General Nur Farah Jimale over the tragic death of the Minister of Public Works and Reconstruction Abbas Abdullahi Siraji on Wednesday night in Mogadishu.
The Cabinet of the Ministers met on Thursday and unanimously agreed on the immediate sacking of the Auditor General Jimale, a source at the Prime Minister’s Office told Somaliupdate Online.
On Thursday morning, two of Mr. Jimale’s bodyguards were put in jail for their involvement in the shooting that triggered in the death of the country’s youngest cabinet member.
The cabinet meeting also discussed the increasing insecurity incidents in Mogadishu and how to resolve the growing concern of many armed forces within the capital city.
Abbas Siraji, the Public Works and Reconstruction Minister was shot dead as he was driving his car near the entrance of the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
The now sacked Auditor General Mr. Jimale, whose guards shot the minister, later expressed regret over the "unfortunate incident” as investigations were launched.
Following the news of the minister’s death, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has cut short of his proposed two-day State Visit in Ethiopia.
President Farmajo, Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and other government officials attended a national funeral for the burial of the dead minister as the body was laid to rest in Mogadishu's Medina Hospital Graveyards later on Thursday.
Born in Afmadow, a southern Somalia town, Grown up and educated in the Dadaab camp in Kenya, the largest refugee complex, Late Siraji, 31-years-old, made the headlines in November last year when he won the seat of Member of the new Somalia Federal Parliament he contested and defeated an incumbent minister from his clansmen in Kismayo town. He was appointed as the Minister of Public Works in late March by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
