    Somalia: Heavy Downpour Kills Five in Puntland

    BOSASSO (Somali Update Online) — At least five confirmed dead after heavy downpour hit parts of Somalia's northeastern region of Puntland, Somali Update reports.

BOSASSO (Somali Update Online) — At least five confirmed dead after heavy downpour hit parts of Somalia's northeastern region of Puntland, Somali Update reports.
The torrential rains continue to shower in many parts of the region since the start of last week, making major roads impassable due to huge floods.
According to Qandala health officer Mohamud Gure, two kids, a boy and his sister, died after they were washed away by the strong downpours in Unun village, about 120km from Qandala, a fishing town on the Indian Ocean coast.
Also officials in Garowe confirmed three kids died a village near Burtinle in Nugal region following heavy downpour in the area. The bodies of the three kids were still missing after the ongoing flooding rain continued on Saturday afternoon.
The Gu’ rainy season started in many parts of the country including the capital, Mogadishu. According to Somalia Water and Land Information Management under the United Nations, the rains are expected to continue until late June making floods highly possible in many parts of the country.
This season’s rains are coming in a time Somalia is experiencing serious drought that affects more than five million people with the need of urgent food aid. The rains are immediate relief to water stress in many regions and locations across the country.
