    Kenya: Al-Shabab Kills Chief Near Mandera, Kidnaps Two Police

    NAIROBI (Somali Update Online) — The militant group Al-Shabab killed a local chief and kidnapped two police officers after an attack on a small village near the border town Mandera on Monday night, Somali Update reports.

NAIROBI (Somali Update Online) — The militant group Al-Shabab killed a local chief and kidnapped two police officers after an attack on a small village near the border town Mandera on Monday night, Somali Update reports.
According to residents in Omar Jilo location, the well-armed militants raided the Omar Jillo village and directly went the house of the local chief named as Omar Dhaqane.
The militant fighters then ambushed two Kenyan Police Reserve known as KPR, who were on foot patrol and kidnapped them, a security officer in Mandera who sought anonymity said.
"The chief was shot six times on the head.” Said Ahmed Biriyo, a resident in Omar Jillo.
The attack occurred around 10pm local time on Monday night.
The Omar Jillo village is in Mandera East, seven kilometres from the border with Somalia.
According to the security sources, the militants went back to the Somalia border side after the raid.
Kenyan security forces in Mandera are reportedly investigating the matter despite nobody was arrested for the attack.
Currently Mandera, a key border town is under dusk to dawn curfew due to past terror attacks that affected the town.
The attack is the second by the militants within a week. Last Thursday, suspected Al-Shabab militants shot and killed a miner in Elwak town and destroyed communication equipment.
