    MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — At least two killed after heavy gun battle erupted in Beledweyne town in the central Somalia region of Hiiraan, Somali Update reports.

MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — At least two killed after heavy gun battle erupted in Beledweyne town in the central Somalia region of Hiiraan, Somali Update reports.
The fighting broke out on Wednesday morning when government forces who were on operation faced resistance from local militia in the west of the town.
According to Yusuf Abdinur, a security officer in Beledweyn, local elders and officials managed to cease the ongoing fighting.
He said the government forces, mainly from the East of Beledweyn clan, were doing unexpected security operation in the west where different clan militias operate resulting in the gun battle.
Business and schools were closed on Wednesday in the west part of the town as local transport was blocked due to the fight.
Government officials led by Governor Nur Jeyte Osman are reportedly trying to withdraw the forces from the west of Beledweyn to enable restoring the normal situation.
Currently, a contingent of the Djiboutian forces under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) based in Beledweyn did not intervene yet.
Inter-clan conflict has been recurrent issue ion many parts of Hiiraan region as clan-based armed militias usually roam and control big towns and villages.
