    MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — The United Nations Special Representative for Somalia Michael Keating explains five big challenges facing Somalia during a policy briefing at the Royal Institute of Chatham House in London.

MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — The United Nations Special Representative for Somalia Michael Keating explains five big challenges facing Somalia during a policy briefing at the Royal Institute of Chatham House in London.
Mr. Keating stressed the drought in the horn of African country that is affecting more than five million people. While famine has not yet happened in Somalia, but there are worrying indications of famine could happen if the current drought is not prevented.
He also mentioned insecurity challenge facing the new government elected in February this year, and how it can affect the high hopes of the people in Somalia. As the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) prepares to withdraw in 2018, the National Forces in Somalia are not yet able to take over their country’s security.
While the federalization is still a big challenge facing Somalia, the issue of borders within states and the status of Mogadishu, the country’s capital is among on the top of the key issues President Farmajo’s administration has to deal with.
The need for Constitutional Review with the current provisional constitution still not yet put into referendum to become a fully adopted law of the country.
