    Somalia: First Security Operation in Mogadishu Seizes Illegal Weapons (PHOTOS)

    MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — Inter-agency security operation has commenced in Mogadishu on Monday to secure the capital from Al-Shabab attacks as Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire hailed the operation, Somali Update reports.

MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — Inter-agency security operation has commenced in Mogadishu on Monday to secure the capital from Al-Shabab attacks as Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire hailed the operation, Somali Update reports.
The first day of the operation targeted two illegal arms black markets in Mogadishu’s Wadajir and Shangani districts, where the security forces seized 19 AK-47 Rifles and six pistols of different makers.
During the search operation which targeted houses and garages, the security forces found machines used to engraving and modification of the government-owned stolen firearms for resale. 
The joint forces also caught uniforms of the military and the police force as well as illicit brew and bhang worth of hundreds of dollars.
It was not clear if there were arrests made during the operation, or hints about who the responsible people were.
In a statement to the newsrooms later, Prime Minister Khaire praised the successful operation which he said will continue until the residents of Mogadishu feel safer.
The operation becomes the first the recently formed unit intended to protect Mogadishu. The unit comprises of the Police, the Military and the National Intelligence and Security Agency.
As Ramadan month approaches, the new government in Villa Somalia is attempting to tackle threats posed by the terror group which continues to target both government and civilian in Mogadishu and major towns under the control of the government, as the 22,000 African Union forces (AMISOM) are preparing to handover security task to the Somali security forces at the end of 2018.
