CAIRO (Somali Update Online) — Somali and Egypt Presidents have discussed security and economic cooperation between the two countries amid President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo's official state visit to Cairo.
President Farmajo started his two-day state visit on Sunday following official invitation by President Abdel Fattah el Sisi.
"The two Presidents discussed enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries on education, economic and immigration." Abdinur Mohamed, the Director of Communications at the Office of Somali President said.
EGYPT AIR FLIGHT
The discussions on Sunday between Farmajo and el Sisi include establishing direct flight between Cairo and Mogadishu by Egypt Air, which if implemented will make the Egypt flag carier second international flight to Somalia after Turkish Airlines, and enabling a visa on-arrival for holders of Somali Diplomatic and Service Passports.
"Indeed the two Presidents agreed on these points." Mr. Abdinur who is among the President's delegation added.

Egypt also agreed to build and support a diplomatic training hub in Somalia and increase of the number of annual scholarships Egypt has been providing Somalia, he says.
Ministers accompanying President Farmajo are also meeting their Egyptian counterparts for follow up and way forward for implementation of the points agreed by the two Presidents.
The Egypt visit comes amid tense diplomatic crisis within Gulf nations. Egypt is among four Arab countries severed ties with Qatar in June. Somalia took neutral position but since then there have been growing pressure coming from Saudi and United Arab Emirates pushing Somalia to reverse its current position on Qatar which funded President Farmajo's election in February.
