    Somali Community Games Kick off in Atlanta, USA

    ATLANTA, USA (Somali Update Online) — Sport teams from eight states of the USA on Thursday converged in Atlanta city of Georgia State for Somali community games during this winter.

Dozens of young players who represent Somali community in different towns of United States will be competing in different sport categories including football, basketball and volleyball.
ATLANTA, USA (Somali Update Online) — Sport teams from eight states of the USA on Thursday converged in Atlanta city of Georgia State for Somali community games during this winter.
Dozens of young players who represent Somali community in different towns of United States will be competing in different sport categories including football, basketball and volleyball.
Over hundred people attended the opening ceremony which took place at one of the stadiums in Atlanta town.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmed Hassan, a member of Clarkston city Council said the competition is intended to create interaction between youths.
"The competition will help facilitate closer relationship for young people from Somali community who have strong affiliation and passion for games," said Hassan, adding "It is about promoting good things in sports. Games protect youngsters against bad habits."
Among other signatory attendees was Mohamed Hassan Qolof, a former Somali National team player and international referee who commended the games organised and hosted by Somali community in Atlanta town.
"These games will produce talented Somali players will represent their community as well as their nation in international matches in the future " said Qolof.
In the opening under-12 football match of the competition, Tennessee team thrashed Georgia.
In a rare situation, Tennessee's line up was included a young girl named Ayan Ahmed who scored goals for Tennessee in her first match.
The regional showpiece saw teams from Georgia, Ohio, Minnesota, Tennessee, Maine, Washington, Seattle among others.
