Gucci Kurtis: Gucci Sells Indian Kurta for Rs.2 Lakhs

In this digital world, the Luxury Brand fashion house in Italy named Gucci is slammed as they sell a new rang of Kaftans and Kurtis in an extra price. Kaftan o Kurti is a very common dress worn across Asian countries. It resembles Indian type Kurta which can be buy by anyone. But Gucci labelled the price very high for the embroidered Kurtis.

Inspired by the Indian culture, the company Gucci sales the ‘floral embroidery organic linen kaftan’ ranges from USD 2,100 (Rs 1.5 lakh) to USD 3,500 (Rs 2.5 lakh). This will  definitely left netizens scratching their heads. They can probably offer similar ‘Indian culture’ at a price way lesser than the huge amount quoted by Gucci.

The label of the product (Kurti) has great things that said about its creation. In the website, they explains it in the following words – ‘Crafted from organic linen, this kaftan is enriched with floral embroidery and self-tile tassels. First introduced as part of Gucci’s 1996 collection, the kaftan continues to be an integral part of the House aesthetic while evolving in new materials and modern details. Unexpected layering with tracksuit pieces define a whole new way to interpret the garment, giving it a surprising twist.’

However, the Kaftan looks very similar to the normal Indian Kameez. Here the main mistake people does is they glorify these international brands for their halfhearted and shoddy attempts at recreating looks that are outright imported, while our local craftsmen, who create significantly more intricate and eye-catching designs gets unappreciated. They make a joke of an income, talks about society and the economy, while this new Gucci line has already sold out.

Gucci is part of the Kering Group. A global Luxury group, Kering manages the development of a series of renowned Houses in Fashion, Leather Goods, Jewelry and Watches. Gucci is reinventing a wholly modern approach to fashion. Under the new vision of creative director Alessandro Michele, the House has redefined luxury for the 21st century, further reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most desirable fashion houses.

This kind of Kurta is selling at the price of $20 in Pakistan and charge few extra if they include a stripes in it. Thus, Western fashion seems to be recreated from the other cultures. But the sad part is people fall for their offer and credit they provide and forget about their own culture.
