Mindy Kaling is gearing up for a return to acting after spending the past few years behind the camera. The 45-year-old actress, known for her sharp wit and memorable performances, revealed that working on her latest show, Running Point, reignited her passion for being on screen.
Inspired by ‘Running Point’ Cast
Kaling, who last appeared on screen in The Morning Show (2023), admitted that watching the ensemble cast of Running Point in action made her eager to step back into the spotlight.
“When we were shooting Running Point, which is coming out next week, the cast was so fun,” Kaling told Extra. “I was like, ‘I want to act with Brenda [Song] and Kate [Hudson]. This is so fun.’ So, yes… [I’ve] got to get back on camera.”
Though Kaling has remained active in Hollywood, her recent projects have been largely off-screen. Last year, she lent her voice to Velma and Monsters At Work, but neither role required her physical presence on set.
A Powerhouse Behind the Scenes
While her on-camera appearances have been scarce, Kaling has kept herself busy with high-profile showrunning projects. She played a crucial role in developing and producing Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls, both of which have earned critical and commercial success.
Kaling’s work behind the camera has cemented her status as a Hollywood powerhouse. She has consistently delivered stories that resonate with diverse audiences, particularly young women navigating life’s transitions. But now, it seems she’s ready to add acting back into the mix.
Honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Last year, Kaling received one of Hollywood’s highest honors—a star on the Walk of Fame. However, her children weren’t present at the ceremony. The mother of three, who has kept the identity of their father private, plans to take them to see the star in person.
“I think that I’m going to take them to come and see it,” she shared. “My oldest is seven, so I don’t know that they know the concept of the star, so this is one of these accolades I’ll have to educate them about a little bit beforehand because if I don’t, they’ll be like, ‘Okay, who cares?’”
Balancing Motherhood and Stardom
Kaling has been candid about balancing her career with motherhood. Her two oldest children—Kit, 7, and Spencer, 4—are just starting to grasp what their mother does for a living. But while her eldest is beginning to appreciate her celebrity status, her younger son is currently more interested in toy trucks than Hollywood.
Speaking at Tory Burch’s New York Fashion Week event in September, she joked, “My son is more into like a trucks vibe. So, unless Tory did like a trucks collab, I think it might be lost on him.”
Kaling’s journey has always been about juggling multiple roles—writer, producer, actress, and now, a mother raising three kids while staying at the top of her game in entertainment. If her latest comments are anything to go by, fans can expect to see her back in front of the camera soon.
