Violet Grohl, the 19-year-old daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, just stepped fully into the spotlight on her own terms. She announced her debut album Be Sweet To Me, set for release on May 29, and dropped the bold, sexy lead single 595 that already has everyone talking.
The announcement came Thursday, confirming months of whispers that Violet had quietly signed with Republic Records/Island EMI back in January.
Be Sweet To Me draws straight from late 80s and 90s alternative
Violet grew up surrounded by rock royalty, but she made this record her way. She recorded the 11-track album between late 2024 and early 2025 with acclaimed producer Justin Raisen, known for his work with Charli XCX, Kim Gordon, Yves Tumor and Sky Ferreira.
She cut the songs at Raisen’s home studio in Los Angeles with a hand-picked band assembled in the spirit of the legendary Wrecking Crew session players of the 60s and 70s.
In a statement, Violet said the late 80s and 90s alternative era spoke to her like nothing else. “There’s something so powerful about that period of music, from the messaging to the visuals, it’s authentic and raw. I’ve listened to that stuff since I was a kid.”
595 is pure cheeky heat
The lead single 595 is inspired by a vintage phone-sex hotline t-shirt. Violet leans all the way in with lyrics like “I’ll be your 1-900-G spot, baby / 595 I’m on the line / You won’t last.”
The track is confident, playful, and instantly catchy, exactly the kind of statement a young artist wants to make when stepping out of a famous shadow.
Dave Grohl stayed completely out of it
Dave Grohl told The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X last month that he had zero involvement in the project.
“She met the producer, and they would go to the studio every day, and she would send me songs when she was finished. But I had absolutely nothing to do with this record at all,” he said.
He found out she signed her deal the same way any parent would, over dinner. Violet showed up at the house and casually dropped the news. Dave’s reaction? Pure proud-dad shock.
Violet has been ready for this moment
This isn’t her first time on big stages. She has sung backing vocals with Foo Fighters for years and took lead on Nirvana’s All Apologies during the short reunion set at the Fire Aid benefit concert in Los Angeles in January 2025.
Those performances showed she has the voice and the nerve. Now the world gets a full album that is entirely hers.
