As temperatures soar, Zhejiang Province faces a significant rise in electricity demand. To address this, innovative energy storage solutions are being implemented. The Hangshi Integrated Energy Technology Chun’an Energy Storage Station, a key project in Zhejiang’s “14th Five-Year” plan, is now operational. This station, located in Wenchang Town, Chun’an County, features advanced technology to support the grid during peak summer demand, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
Advanced Energy Storage Technology
The Hangshi Integrated Energy Technology Chun’an Energy Storage Station is a pioneering project in Zhejiang. It includes 16 battery prefabrication cabins and 16 PCS boost integration machines. The station also has a boost substation and a comprehensive office building. With a maximum charging and discharging power of 50 megawatts and a total storage capacity of 100 megawatt-hours, it is designed to meet the high electricity demands during peak periods.
The strategic location next to the 110 kV Wenchang Substation minimizes external construction efforts. This proximity facilitated an earlier start of operations, ensuring timely support for the grid. The station’s energy storage efficiency is 95%, and it operates on a cycle of two charges and discharges per day. This efficiency is crucial for maintaining a stable power supply during peak demand times.
The station’s capacity to enhance clean energy consumption by 25 million kilowatt-hours annually is significant. This amount of energy can satisfy the annual electricity needs of about 25,000 households. Additionally, it helps reduce carbon emissions by 9,000 tons, contributing to Zhejiang’s environmental goals.
Strategic Planning and Implementation
State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company has been proactive in planning for the peak summer period. The company strategically chose the site for the energy storage station to optimize construction and operational efficiency. The high-speed rail ecological industrial park in Wenchang Town was selected for its suitability and infrastructure.
The station’s role in Zhejiang’s electricity market is multifaceted. It participates in grid dispatches, playing crucial roles in peak shaving, frequency regulation, emergency backup, and demand response support. These functions are vital for maintaining grid stability and ensuring a reliable power supply during high-demand periods.
The integration of photovoltaic projects in western Zhejiang, such as those in Chun’an County, further supports the grid. These projects have been increasingly vital in recent years, providing additional power during peak summer demand. The combination of photovoltaic and energy storage technologies enhances the overall efficiency and reliability of the power supply.
Environmental and Economic Benefits
The implementation of advanced energy storage solutions in Zhejiang brings numerous environmental and economic benefits. By enhancing clean energy consumption, the province can reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. This shift contributes to lower carbon emissions and supports global efforts to combat climate change.
Economically, the energy storage station provides a cost-effective solution for managing electricity demand. By storing energy during low-demand periods and releasing it during peak times, the station helps stabilize electricity prices. This stability benefits both consumers and businesses, ensuring a reliable and affordable power supply.
The project also creates job opportunities in the region, contributing to local economic growth. The construction and operation of the energy storage station require skilled labor, providing employment for residents. Additionally, the project’s success can attract further investments in renewable energy and storage technologies, fostering innovation and development in Zhejiang.
